Most older heating and air systems rely on R-22 refrigerant. The government is making this type of refrigerant obsolete because it damages our ozone. All new systems are required by federal law to be manufactured with newer refrigerant (410A) that is safer for our environment. The Federal Government is also limiting the amount of production of the old R-22 refrigerant, which will cause the price of R-22 to skyrocket. Eventually, it will not be available.
